Weekend reading...........

This is far to early to be blogging but seen as I am up, showered, the kids are feed and happily playing. I have a cup of tea in hand I am going to show you my reading material for the weekend. I finally succumbed to buying one of these fabulous Japanese books that I have seen all around blogland. I bought it from Pompadour24 and I can't say how quick her service was. Here in Noumea I usually have to wait weeks before things arrive but not with this book........5 days was all it took. I am impressed the postal services stars must have all been aligned!
Anyway I am going to look through the book and see what I will make first. I may even get the pattern cut out and the fabric on the table.

Finishing...........

I managed to finish two things today. The above bib and the last book in the Twilight series. Thank god that is over and I can do things for my family again.

By the way can anybody suggest another series of books that gets you in like the above one.

A tin and a book................

My husband has just come back from a trip away. He needed to pass through our home town of Melbourne and while he was there he picked up a few things my mum had for me. She knows I like a tin so she sent me one of those and I had asked her a while back if she had any good learn to crochet books in her stash. I knew there wasn't going to be a no answer there. I know the basics of crocheting but I wanted to learn a few more complicated stitches and this book has it all. Lacy, chevron and a multitude of granny squares.
I was thinking what I could put in my tin and I think I may just fill it up with granny squares that I learn to make from my new book. Also if I have it sitting next to me on my little table in the lounge that I keep all my craft bits on I will think of my mum everytime I look at it.

P.s these things have been on a bit of a journey. They came from Melbourne then went to Sulawesi and now they are in Noumea. I wonder where they will go next!

Perfet parcels................

Parcels, parcels, parcels. We all love a parcel arriving in our letter box or at the post office in my case. I was reading through all my blogs this morning when I came across Tinniegirl talking about all the things she had received over the last little while. I was sitting there thinking I hadn't got any surprises of late but was expecting two and hurray here they are freshly picked up this afternoon. First one was a wee purchase from Ms.badskirts and she threw in a lovely bunch of extra stuff. Thank you very much Amy.

The other was some books from Amazon. The Weekend Sewing was purchased on retromummy's recommendation. She has made loads of stuff out of it and loves it. I am about to sit down with a cup of tea and look through it. The 2nd book is about Marie Antoinette. I have a new found interest in her life and the times she lived in. This has been on the list of books to buy for a while.

Thirdly do you count buying a PDF from a seller on Etsy a surprise parcel. It was in my inbox this morning. I got a copy of this from JC handmade who I have just recently discovered. She is a mamam of twins also.

Ok I have plenty to do now so I am off to read, sew and learn a bit more history.

Only books.........

Well I went out into the big wide world(Hawaii) thinking I was going to find fabric stores of all varieties but alas I failed. On my whole trip I went into one proper fabric/quilting store and that was in Hilo at the start of our trip. I don't know if any of you are like me but I didn't want to go in too hard at the beginning because I thought I was going to go to even bigger and better stores. I didn't want to load myself up early and then go off and see more interesting stuff and not be able to buy it. I'm not sure what I thinking I was going to find when I got to Hawaii-re fabric stores- but I thought there would be some and there probably are but not in the built up beach area. I had heard that the Hawaiians made beautiful quilts and I did get to see some in many shops but what I really did realise is that your average tourist is not going to Honolulu for new gadgets in haberdashery stores or fantastic fabric but something else.

I didn't come away completely empty handed of craft stuff. I did get a very small amount of time to look into a couple of the bigger book stores and found some books. Golly gee there are alot of craft books out there when you get them in one space. So in the future posts you may see some spiffy aprons or even some cute animals or maybe a bit of Martha christmas crafted stuff.

Goodreads........

I was asked by Nichola to join up over at Goodreads. The idea of it is to share info about books and what you thought. Good, bad or otherwise. I have become a bit addicted and can't hold myself back from putting up all the books I have read or want to read. The bookshelf sits right next to the computer desk and all those books are staring down at me. I think in the last 18 months I have done the most reading I have done ever. The reasons being is that I have a whole lot more time on my hands since moving here to Noumea. The combination of not having to work and the kids being at school gives me this spare reading time. I like that I can do this but I sometimes get the guilts up about it. Anyway if anybody is interested in being my friend on Goodreads let me know as at this stage I only have 2 and I have a whole lotta books to tell you about!

Raunchy rather hopeless PI. Set in and around Melbourne and I could visualise the places she was as I was reading. It was good fun!

Raining and reading............

It has been raining here for the last two days and that doesn't make me particularly inspired to do anything much other than read. The reading matter could be anything books( this is on the go at the moment), magazines, old good weekend's that people have brought over or other bloggers. So today I'm going to just tell you about a few I have discovered. They are not necessarily new but they are new to me.

Yarnstorn - I have just ordered her book. An early Christmas present to myself.

That should keep you busy for a while. Better go off now and clean up the house. Husband is due back today. He's not arriving till this afternoon but with the rain continuing it could take me all day. There seems to be reading material wherever I look. Aarrgh!!!!
